Simple care. Lasting protection.
A thoughtful routine for the handbags, leather shoes and leather apparel you value. Start with the material, then follow these five essentials.
Before the first drop.
White cloth. Small amount. Gentle touch. These principles apply to both products.
Wipe first
Gently remove loose dust and dirt with a clean, dry white microfiber cloth. Avoid colored cloths: their dyes may transfer to the leather.
Apply to the cloth
Put Foaming Cleaner or Leather Lotion onto the cloth first. Never apply either product directly to the leather.
Always spot-test
Test a small, hidden area. Allow it to dry, then check for changes in color, texture or finish before treating the whole item.
Use a small amount
A little goes a long way. Lightly treat the surface with only the amount needed. Do not saturate the leather.
Wipe gently
Use light, gentle motions. Do not over-apply, scrub or rub excessively, as this may affect the color or finish.
Step 1 — Foaming Cleaner
Use Leather Foam Cleaner for dirt, surface buildup and mold that a dry microfiber cloth cannot remove.
Apply a small amount of foam to a clean white microfiber cloth—not directly to the leather. Gently wipe the affected area without scrubbing or saturating it.
Allow the leather to air-dry naturally for a few hours—ideally around 3 hours, or until completely dry—before applying Leather Care Lotion. Complete drying matters more than the clock.
Step 2 — Leather Lotion
Once the leather is completely dry, apply a small amount of Leather Care Lotion to a separate clean white microfiber cloth.
Gently and evenly apply to suitable leather. Regular conditioning helps maintain suppleness and reduce dryness that may lead to cracking.
Less is more. Gentle, regular care is better than over-cleaning or over-conditioning. Let the item air-dry completely before storing.
Cleaner, Lotion or the complete System?
Choose according to the care step you need, after checking your material and finish.
- The Pristine System: the complete routine, with Cleaner 100 mL, Lotion 50 g, one microfiber cloth, a care card and a booklet box. Use a separate clean white microfiber cloth for Lotion.
- Leather Foam Cleaner, 100 mL: the cleaning step for dirt, surface buildup and mold that dry wiping cannot remove from compatible materials.
- Leather Care Lotion, 50 g: the conditioning step for suitable leather, used only after complete drying.
The individual Cleaner and Lotion do not include a cloth. Explore the three products.
The finish matters more than the label.
Check the material before you begin. A brand name alone does not establish compatibility.
Suitable materials
Pristine is intended for calfskin, cowhide and goatskin, including grained calfskin such as Caviar-style leather, and compatible coated canvas. The material’s finish and condition still matter: always spot-test first.
This includes suitable Hermès leathers except Barenia and exotic skins. Chanel and YSL grained calfskin, and coated canvas used by Louis Vuitton, Goyard, Celine and Gucci, are examples of materials—not guarantees for every item or finish.
Do not use on
Do not use on exotic skins—including crocodile, alligator, lizard, snakeskin and ostrich—Barenia leather, nubuck, suede, or untreated vachetta.
Do not use on nylon, fabric, uncoated canvas or toile, including Hermès Herbag and Garden Party canvas and fabric linings. Coated canvas and uncoated canvas are different materials.
Avoid soaking or aggressive rubbing, especially on delicate, aged, painted, metallic, specialty-finish or untreated leather. If you are unsure about a finish, seek expert advice before applying.
Coated canvas is different from uncoated canvas
The Pristine Care Guide includes compatible coated canvas. It excludes uncoated canvas/toile and fabric linings, as well as nylon and fabric.
Identify the material and finish before use. Dry-wipe first, then spot-test a small, hidden area and let it dry. Check for changes in color, texture or finish before proceeding. Use only a small amount on a clean white microfiber cloth and wipe gently.
The lotion instructions describe conditioning suitable leather. A designer name alone does not establish that a material or finish is compatible. If you are unsure, seek expert advice before applying.
How to spot-test
Apply a small amount to a clean white microfiber cloth, then test a small, hidden area of the same material and finish. Let it dry completely and check for any change in color, texture or finish before treating the rest.
If you notice an unwanted change, stop. Do not apply more product or continue to the rest of the item. Ask for guidance.
Drying and storage
Allow the item to air-dry completely before storing. Keep handbags, leather shoes and leather apparel in a cool, dry, well-ventilated area to help prevent mold.
Use gentle, regular care according to the product instructions. Cleaning and conditioning do not replace careful storage or professional treatment for significant damage.
When in doubt, don’t risk it. Preserve it.
Pristine is for routine at-home care and maintenance. It is not a substitute for professional leather restoration.
Pen and ink marks, deep scuffs, color transfer, rub marks, discoloration, scratches and other significant damage may not be removable through regular cleaning. Seek a professional restoration service for advanced care, or whenever the material or finish is uncertain.
Care that preserves value.
The Pristine System brings the Cleaner, Lotion, microfiber cloth and care card together in a black booklet box. Considered essentials for the pieces you love.
